It may feel like a familiar look for guys, but the buzz cut is back in style. Three out of four women say they're more likely to run their hands through a buzz cut because they like how it feels, according to a national survey conducted by StrategyOne.

The good news for guys is that while some hair styles require expensive and time-consuming up-keep, the buzz is one of the most achievable and least expensive cuts to maintain. And thanks to advancements in clipper technology, the buzz cut can now be done from almost anywhere in just minutes. Here are three steps to getting the look she loves:

1. Select the right tool.
When choosing a hair clipper, start with the design. Look for products with blades that are self-sharpening and made of high-carbon steel and that have higher power to avoid snagging, pulling and uneven cutting. Make sure the product comes with taper control and includes a host of guard attachments. Next, consider how and where you want to use it. For instance, the new Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper caters to today's on-the-go lifestyles by combining cordless operation with twice the run time of comparable clippers.

2. Get comfortable.
Plan accordingly. Find a place with ample lighting and a mirror and make sure to carve out enough time so as not to feel hurried. Know how and where to start and which guards to use. Consider viewing a demo, especially if this is your first time using a hair clipper or are experimenting with a new style. Resources such as www.wahlgreathaircuts.com provide video demonstrations and step-by-step instructions in English and Spanish.

3. Stay on guard.
Deciding how short to go is a matter of personal preference. To play it safe, start with a higher numbered guard comb. Begin at the neckline in the back. Work your way up and around, moving from back to front along the sides. For the front, start at the bangs and work your way back. Switch to the appropriate taper guides around the ears. For touching up sideburns and evening out the edges, remove the guard or apply the trimmer feature offered on some clipper models.
